Just a ten minute drive from Australia’s most easterly point, Byron Bay and a number of other stunning quite beaches you arrive in Bangalow, Byron’s grown up sister. This village ooze’s a cosmopolitan vibe with restaurants, cafes, art galleries, antique, retro shops and some of the most gorgeous home wares and clothing stores in the region. As you will be aware, there is a great emphasis on sumptuous gourmet local produce, with flagships being the Farmers Market each Sat morning.

With Nimbin to the west and Byron Bay to the east Bangalow is in the centre of the counter culture. The village is an historical treasure.

Bangalow is also renowned for its picturesque countryside and agricultural pursuits. The surrounding green, rolling hills are a patchwork of fruit trees, macadamia orchards, coffee plantations, dairy cattle and other agricultural activities.  Many specific events happen in Bangalow throughout the year and it is quickly gaining a reputation as a centre for music and cultural development. Bangalow has a strong yet diverse community spirit and has one of the largest populations of families in the Shire

The population of Bangalow township and it’s surrounding areas in the 2479 postcode ia approx. 4,200. Locals joke that it took 100 years to reach 2100 and 10 years to double to 4200. In keeping with the strong community spirit, Bangalow has a wealth of community organisations, such as Chamber of Commerce, Lions, Bridge Club, Scouts, CWA, Garden Club, Land/Rivercare group, Parks Committee, Playgroup, Pool Trust, Poultry Club, Quilters group, Historical Society and a Writer’s Group.

Farmers Market

Absolute-Bangalow-LogoLocated at the top end of the village behind the Hotel, every Saturday morning, the Farmers of the region bring their produce to sell to the local and visitors’ between 7am to 11am. A must to stroll through and if you don’t stock up on produce at the least take home some macadamia paste or local coffee.

Monthly Market

The Bangalow markets on the 4th Sunday of every month are a gathering of locals, a get-together of; artists, artisans, bakers, therapists, farmers and friends which attract visitors from afar to enjoy the relaxed day. The Bangalow Market Day is a treat for day-trippers, a retreat from the rush of everyday life.

Part of the continuing success of the market is the beautiful grounds the markets are held in, which are dominated by eleven huge camphor laurel trees which provide welcome shade and rustling leaves and a magic forest atmosphere.

If you are coming to the market you will have to leave your dog at home. Parking is available in the showgrounds at the market. Parking fee is $2

Bangalow Billy Cart Derby

Bangalow Billy Cart Derby is an annual family event that draws locals and visitors alike and showcases good old fashioned outdoors fun down the main street of Bangalow.  Age and social status are no barriers to participation. The day includes junior and senior billy cart racing, a street parade, displays and food stalls. 3rd Sunday in May.

Bangalow Music Festival

Bangalow Music Festival an annual event which is one of Australia’s most enchanting music events, with a combination of fine chamber music in beautiful surroundings. Friday 15 August to Sunday 17 August. The Bangalow Music Festival, presented by the Southern Cross Soloists, is an ongoing musical tradition located in the heart of Bangalow at the A&I Hall and throughout a number of other venues.  Spanning three days and boasting nine concerts, the festival features the highest acclaimed international soloists and Australia’s most anticipated chamber music ensembles. Guests from the USA, Singapore, Germany, Israel, and Australia will join the Southern Cross Soloists in a weekend of performances – spanning traditions of jazz, classical, and contemporary chamber music. A wonderful event not to be missed.

BBQ & Bluegrass

BBQ & Bluegrass held on the 1st weekend in August is a new event celebrating local produce and Bluegrass music, with a focus on family activities and funds raised to support local Schools.

Starlight Wellbeing Expo

Starlight Wellbeing Expo held Easter weekend is in its 37th year. A wonderful expo celebrating morning activities of crystal singing bowl music, talks, workshops and informal cafe chats with presenters. Add to this free Reiki one atonements’ and more. This is included in your admission for each day of the festival, where you will meet some of the areas finest readers and healers, offering discounted sessions. In this friendly, safe and nurturing space you can unwind and make some new friends.  Reiki Level one attunements worth $150 offered free every day (included in Admission). Two hour workshops. Running throughout the day these in depth experiences are designed for the spiritual explorer!  Crystal Singing Bowl music. Your experience of pure quartz crystal singing bowls will bring deep peace. Please be punctual(10am) the doors will be closed to keep out extraneous noise. Talks On the hour we offer a selection of talks each day. Discover the latest in alternative thinking and complimentary therapies. Feel free to ask penetrating questions! Cafe Chats. Have a relaxed chat on the half hour in an intimate environment with specialist presenters over a delicious organic coffee and gluten free cake from our fabulous cafe. Including wholesome meals, snacks, cool drinks, home made chai, Organic coffee and delectable sweets available throughout the Expo, all made with the finest quality local ingredients.

Sample Food Festival

Sample Food Festival will see the Bangalow Show ground filled with restaurant stalls and exhibitors from the region’s finest food producers from a wide range of local café’s and restaurateurs and the 2013 Sample Food Festival – a taste of Northern NSW. There will be cooking demonstrations, Byron Farmers markets, a vibrant children’s’ entertainment program with the highlight being the restaurants showcasing their tasting plates to the public. Sat 13th September 2014.

Bangalow Annual Show

Bangalow Annual Show is located in one of the prettiest show grounds on the North Coast with a spectacular program of events and displays. More than a century old, and still maintaining an agricultural focus, the Bangalow show is a weekend not to be missed.  Saturday 15th November to Sunday 16th November 2013

Bangalow Christmas Eve Carnival

Bangalow Christmas Eve Carnival is an evening gathering of the Bangalow community friends and family on the night before Christmas. The main street of the village becomes a bustle of lights, performers, food vendors’ and a tapestry of locals to gather for the festive spirit.
